What is a Brand?
A brand is the emotional idea behind a company. It is the feeling or emotion that is produced from the company. You are your brand, along with your service, product, pricing, colors, style, look, location etc. These aspects are what make your brand. So what kind of feeling is your brand producing in people?
What is Branding?
Branding is the act of establishing a brand’s uniqueness and meaning through creating and managing the signals that convey the idea. These signals communicate what the brand is all about. Branding can communicate in any way that touches our 5 senses.
1. For branding to be effective it has to be original and true to what your brand is all about. There are many other businesses or companies doing the same thing that yours is. Therefore, you must give the consumer a good reason to come to you rather than the competition.
2. You must narrow your focus down to communicate your message effectively. Find your niche and stick with it. If you try to appeal to everybody, you will appeal to no one.
3. Your brand must attract and be relevant to your Target Market or Audience. Research what your target audience is looking for and what service, product, or message will draw them to your brand. Know what their need or problem is so you can provide the solution to their need or fix their problem.
Web Design and Graphic design play a big part in branding through pictures, color choices, typography, logo design, marketing and media material, and print media. The design process must be thoughtfully and carefully laid out to effectively communicate the brand message to the brands target market. Often times a brand or businesses will think it is a waste of time and money to develop a solid brand identity. This is a big mistake because a brand or business image is what attracts people and many times the image is the Big First Impression that will get a person interested rather than detoured. Every day we see branding at work no matter where we are! We are all attracted visually to things that look good, which also produces a feeling of good or bad, beautiful or ugly. Every product we own communicated it’s brand effectively to make you want to buy it, and every billboard or advertisement attracts you or detours you through the image it portrays.
Much care, time, energy, and resources should go into a brand’s development. Once you find out what your brand is all about and the message you want to convey, it’s time for brand identity, which is a big part in effective branding.
